When you find a good blog post or article you probably save it to your browser favorites. Likewise when you encounter an amusing video or a podcast you want to listen to later. It’ simple enough to save those URLs and return to them again and again. What do you do when you find not just a good page or an interesting article, but something really great? How do you choose to share that page — that bookmark — with others?
The most common way is to send someone an email with the link. Or, rather, that used to be the most common way. In the earliest days of the web it was the only way. Then people realized that they could share links by typing them into chat rooms or instant message and that they could even post the on their personal websites as a “favorite sites” list. These practices are still valid ways to share links, but there are much more efficient ways to get the word out about a great page or video to the most possible people.
If you want to share bookmark s you should open accounts on several different social media sites. You’ll want to find a good bookmarking site as well as accounts on networking and microblogging sites. This way you save the URL on the bookmark site, complete with rating, description and tags so that all other users of the site can find it too. Then, if you’ve chosen one of the better bookmarking sites, it will integrate with your social networking accounts and post the link where all your friends and followers can see it too — and then they can pass it on to their friends. Post it in one place and it’s shared with — and passed on to — many others.
