One of the favorite things to do for people who visit stay in some of the South Beach Miami hotels , in addition to spending a great deal of time on the beach, in the water and in the night clubs, is to drive just north of the city and visit the famous Coral Castle of Ed Leedskalnin . This amazing property, which is now a museum and testament to the unique brilliance of this man is one of Southern Florida’s most intriguing and also mystifying attractions.
The museum represents the life work of Leedskalnin and the amazing stone sculptures it contains continues to defy scientific understanding. The only hint of how he completed his work is his reported statement that he knew the secrets of how the pyramids were created. No one ever saw him at work and he always completed projects under the cover of the night sky. The amazing sculpture garden contains pieces of stone that have been carved into furniture and other items. The most popular attraction is the nine ton gate that opens with the touch of a finger. Another favorite item is the Polaris telescope he built. Tours of the garden are guided by audio narration and the staff is eager to answer questions. Just don’t ask them how he did it, they don’t know.
